Welcome
From PGFSOA Wiki
Welcome to the Practical Guide to Federal Service Oriented Architecture (PGFSOA) Semantic Media Wiki (SMW) site.
This SMW is one of a number of social media tools provided by the PGFSOA Portal to evolve and mature the PGFSOA in 2008.

The latest version of the PGFSOA is 1.1, released in June 2008. Please download the PDF format here.
Contribute to the PGFSOA 1.2 Work In Progress
Please use the pgfsoa 1.2 wip links on the left to make your NEW contributions directly to the wiki content.
The PGFSOA Process
The PGFSOA uses this wiki, and specifically the 'pgfsoa X.x wip' editable sections to enable the community collective to contribute directly to the content in the PGFSOA. The AIC led Steering Committee in partnership with the IAC led Editorial Board monitor and adjudicate the contributions made to this section of the Wiki.
- When a substantial amount of new material is generated in the editable 'wip' sections, a PGFSOA X.y Draft Release is generated, and linked to on the left, as a 'standalone' draft or final Wiki article.
- The AIC reviews the Draft version X.y for Final, adjudicating and attributing any contributions as required.
- When the Draft has been reviewed by the AIC, it becomes Final version X.y, and the downloadable document, as well as the standalone Wiki article becomes version X.y.
- At this point, the 'wip' section automatically advances a minor revision to X.z, and the community contribution ensues.
- This cycle repeats until such time as there are no more contributions from the community to the PGFSOA.
Background
Who's Involved
A collaborative partnership exists between the Federal Chief Information Officers Council (FCIOC) Architecture and Infrastructure Committee (AIC) Services and Governance Subcommittees and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Federal Enterprise Architecture Program Management Office (FEA-PMO). With the support of the American Council for Technology's Industry Advisory Council (ACT/IAC) work on the PGFSOA began around December 2006.
Status
Over 50 volunteers representing government and industry contributed to the collaboration which produced the PGFSOA Version 1.0 Public Draft. An Extrnal Review was conducted on this first release throughout March 2008. The first set of reviewers produced results that have been incorporated into the latest version, the PGFSOA Version 1.1 Public Draft. You are invited to continue the refinement and improvement of the PGFSOA by participating in this next round of external review.
The AIC is grateful for the collaboration of these many talented originators and review contributors.
Going Forward
The PGFSOA is now a social media experiment in collective guidance development. This site will make it easier for contributors to share their collective knowledge and expertise with the AIC and IAC collaborators.
Stay Abreast
- To get the latest information about the status of the PGFSOA, see the Current Events page in the 'pgfsoa collective' navigation area to the left. At the moment, this article contains information on publicly available listservs that PGFSOA email blasts would go out on.
- You can 'watch' the development of the PGFSOA anonymously by selecting the 'history' tab of any article of interest (most likely the latest version) and then subscribing to the RSS or Atom feeds with your favorite RSS/Atom enabled reader (e.g., Firefox, IE7) from the 'toolbox' on the lower left of every 'history' page.
Contributors
This document was produced by a team of dedicated individuals led by the Service Subcommittee and the Governance Subcommittee of the Architecture and Infrastructure Committee (AIC) of the Federal Chief Information Officer Council in conjunction with the American Council for Technology/Industry Advisory Council’s Enterprise Architecture Shared Interest Group (EA SIG).

Login Using OpenID
- Once you have an OpenID managed by myopenid.com as your Identity Provider, you can login using the OpenID credentials that you've associated with any 'persona.' We will add other OpenID Identity Providers as we're able to test them and allow for them in accordance with GSA Security Policies.
- When you first start using your Open ID credential, the PGFSOA Wiki site will return you to myopenid.com to validate your identity request. You will see a message asking to approve a Trust Root. For the PGFSOA Wiki, the Trust Root is: http://smw.osera.gov/pgfsoa.
- Examine the trust root provided, and either choose to allow the request to validate your identity or to deny it, and whether you want OpenID.com to allow requests from this trust root to proceed without your approval in future (Allow Forever), or if you would prefer to be asked again next time (Allow Once). Only approve requests from http://smw.osera.gov/pgfsoa/.
- Each time that you log into the PGFSOA Wiki, you will use the OpenID URL that has been supplied to you when you registered for your OpenID. It will be of the form: http://yourID.myopenid.com (NOTE: the http:// prefix might be optional depending how your browser processes URL addresses.) This is called your Identity URL. When prompted by the PGFSOA Wiki site at Login, you will enter your Identity URL. The password that you provided to OpenID when you established your Identity URL will be used each time you enter the PGFSOA Wiki to edit. When you enter this password, you will be returned to the PGFSOA Wiki to continue and will see the following message:
Benefits of OpenID
- When you login with an OpenID rather than as an anonymous user, you have a lot more control over how you 'watch' what's happening on the site. For example, you can watch individual sections of an article, you can manage your 'my watchlist', see your accumulated contributions, and much more.
- This approach to contributor attribution allows for you to maintain your anonymity, to speak as an individual without any organizational affiliation (professional or otherwise), or contribute as on individual on behalf of your organizational or professional affiliation. You are in charge!
- Also, OpenID makes it easy to enable Single Sign On across the PGFSOA Portal, so you'll get SSO across other social media tools (such as blogs, forums, the portal itself, and more!).
